Chapter 6 – Spirit, Soul, and Body
A human being is a spirit who has a soul that lives in a body.
Spirit = the life force of a human; the True Person.
Soul = mind, will, and emotions, or thoughts, desires, and feelings.
Body = the vehicle we get to use on earth.
In the same way God is a triune entity, so are humans since we are made in His image and likeness. (Genesis 1)
The human spirit that is not born again is dead and continuing to die, which is weird but true. The soul and body connected to that dead spirit have no defense against the fallen world or the evil enemy at work in it. That spirit is sinful in identity because that identity has been passed to them from Adam. When Adam didn’t believe God and sinned by eating the fruit, Adam’s spirit died and was separated from God in the spirit realm. Adam is the father of all humans thus every human born comes equipped with Adam’s sin nature in their spirit.
The human spirit that chooses to believe Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead is instantly born new! That spirit is suddenly brought to life as a citizen of the kingdom of heaven the same way that Jesus was brought to life by the Spirit of God. The righteous identity, or DNA, of Jesus replaces the dead Adam spirit.
